City 1016 - The UAE's No.1 Bollywood Radio Station

For as long as we can remember Rohit has always loved to entertain people. Many years ago Rohit figured that perhaps one of the ways he could do this was by getting on the radio. Over the last few years he has been working with various radio stations both in India and overseas. In India he was with Radio City 91.1 FM and with Fever 104. Currently he works with City 1016 in Dubai. City 1016 is the UAE's No.1 Bollywood Radio Station.
Dubai is a great place for radio and Rohit loves what he does at City 1016. He hosts the Evening Drive Time show along with Meghana every weekday evening from 5 to 9pm. Mind you in Dubai we work from Sunday to Thursday…a little different from the rest of the world. The show is a highly entertaining and engetic show with laughs all around called – Drive Master GoGo with Meghana and Rohit. For those of you who are fans of Andaz Apna Apna you probably find the name quite familiar…yes…Crime Master GoGo…Drive Master GoGo...
At City 1016, Rohit has interviewed some of the biggest stars in Bollywood. Check out some of the interesting behind the scenes stuff from these interviews.

Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan

Deepika Padukone : "Ek chutki sindoor ki keemat tum kya jaano Ramesh Babu."

This was quite a moment Deepika Padukone and I shared on Stage. She was asked to perform her famous line from the film Om Shanti Om. She agreeded to do this only if I would play the role of Ramesh Babu. As you can see, I gladly did.

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan : "Look I found my Arnab Bagchi!!!"

This was during the promotion of the 2012 film Kahaani in which Vidya Balan is looking for her husband Arnab Bagchi. It just so happened that when she walked into the studio she was like, "Hey, you look like my husband." Right thought the interview, Vidhya Balan was in character. She is an amazing actress and a wonderful person. I'm not just saying this becuase she saw her husband in me.

Rani Mukherjee and Prithviraj

This photo was clicked when Rani Mukherjee was in the City 1016 Studio to promote her film Aiyya. The plot of the film was based on the fact that the character that Rani plays loves South Indian men...especially if they are Tamilian.

Rohit : "I'm Tamilian!!!"
Rani : "Aiiya!!!"

KK and Shalmali Kholgade

Rohit : "I've used lines from your Romantic song more times than I can remember."
KK : "But dude, as it ever worked?"

After a hearty laugh, realized that a blog I once wrote was based on one of KK's songs.

Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra

Ranbir Kapoor : "I don't think I deserve to be called the sexiest man on earth."

Right after that I told Ranbir, "I don't feel the same about myself. I'm glad to be called the sexiest man on earth. Next time People Magazine is doing a poll like that, I'd like to put my name on the ballot. How do I do that? Do I need to know someone?"
Ranbir Kapoor : "I'm not on Facebook!"

Right after that we convinced Ranbir to update our Facebook Status saying something to our listeners. I don't quite remember what he typed but I know that Priyanka Chopra kept peeping into what he was writing and kept telling him to correct any typos. That BTW is my laptop. Should have put this image up on Dubizzle when I was trying to sell it.

Atif Aslam

Rohit : "I know three chords. D, G and I think A."

Atif Aslam is perhaps one of the most popular singers of our generation. While he was in the studio he spoke to some of our listeners. The amazing thing was that he remembered one of our random callers and totally made her day, month and year. He is talented, candid and pretty much just like us.

Paresh Rawal

Rohit and Meghana : "Teja mein hoon, mark idhar hai!"

This just seemed like the most approprate thing to do when we had the real Teja from Andaz Apna Apna in the City 1016 Studio. Paresh Rawal found it amusing that our radio show is called - Drive Master GoGo based on the famous Crime Master GoGo in the 1994 film.

Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor

Saif Ali Khan : "Hi this is Rohit Jayakaran and you are listening to City 1016."

Yup, for those of you who have heard me on the radio, I'm sure the thought has crossed your mind at least once..."Hey this guy sounds like Saif Ali Khan." As fate would have it, yes I do, but I do not do this on purpose.

During this inteview with Saif, I took a caller on air to speak with the superstar. After a conversation that lasted about 2 minutes, the girl asked if she could speak to Saif now. The funny thing had been that she was talking to him all along. We then took on another caller who though Saif was me, and asked if he could play a song for her. I was amused, I think Saif was a little irritated. ROFL!!! Welcome to my world Saif!!!

Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol

Rohit : "Let's see if I can beat you at arm wrestling."

Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol were an absolute pleasure to interview. The two of them were funny, intelligent and polite.

So, who do you think won this round of arm wrestling...ek ke paas dhai kilo ka haath hai, aur doosre ke pass photo of what really happened.

David Dhawan, Siddharth, Taapsee Pannu & Divyendu Sharma

Salman Khan

T I have said this before and I have written an entire blog about Salman Khan. Thought I'd just quote from the blog to describe my experience with this superstar.

So Salman was asked, “Will you be wearing Being Human clothing in your films?” Now here I would like you to imagine an answer that you think a normal celeb would have given. I bet it would be something like, “If the script demands it…bla bla bla.” Salman’s answer, “It might be a little difficult…can you imagine Chulbul Pandey (From Dabangg) wearing a being human T-shirt and saying… ‘Hum tum mein itna ched karenge ki confuse ho jaoge ki...(while the audience bursts out laughing…he continued saying) how can I wear a Being Human T-Shirt and say, Kamini se yaad aaya…bhabhi kaise hai …(this is where the audience full of journalists….applauded, laughed and whistled)

Check out my blog about Salman Khan entitled - Salman Khan does not have a heart of Gold

Chunky Pandey

Bipasha Basu, Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta

This was the first of many times I interviewed Esha Gupta. She is the cute one on the left. After she came to our studio a few times we said to her, "We should just give you an access card."

This photo was clicked when Esha Gupta, Emraan Hashmi and Bipash Basu came to the studio to promote their film Raaz 3.
Emraan Hashim : "Go watch Bipasha in 3D." Three days later, the film was banned in the region.

Ayushmann Khurrana, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Pooja Salvi, Evelyn Sharma, Gaelyn Mendonca and Rohan Sippy

Hard Kaur and Nikhil Chinapa

Hard Kaur : "One sec Rohit, where are you going...I'm all sweaty let me put it all over you."

Hard Kaur is an incredible person both on stage and off. She has been to our studio several times and I think I've interviewed her on at least three occasions. She is talent and yet extremely grateful for the love and support she receives whereever she goes.

Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhudeva

Deepika Padukone, Saif Ali Khan, Ameesha Patel, Anil Kapoor, Abbas - Mustan, Jacqueline Fernandez and John Abraham

This was definitely the biggest ensemble cast I've ever interviewed in my career. One of the highlights of this interview was when we were trying to click a photograph to upload onto our facebook page. Since everyone was in position and there was nobody to click the photo, John Abraham said, "I'll click the photo." This of course is not the photo John Abraham clicked. The one below however was clicked by John Abraham using my phone.
